Even the Best of Plans….

Tonight and last night we stayed at Hill’s RV Campground right off 90, which was going to be our way stop from Lewis & Clark to Pierre, SD.  It is a simple type of campground not one that you would stay at for days, which we knew in advance after looking at it on Google Satellite.

As you can see, very basic!  When we arrived here yesterday there were only 2 other campers here — tonight there are a couple more.

As many of you know, David is a planner!!  So when we decided to travel to Arizona, we knew we would have 30 days to get there, so we planned a trip that would include areas for sightseeing.  Rather than just go day to day, we made reservations for the first 2 weeks.  Our plan was to get to Custer, SD to see the sights around there.  But then the COLD snap hit and we were greeted by these facts for Custer:

First it was the Winter Weather Advisory with the prediction of 4-8 inches of snow.  We had started to hear talk about this from some truckers at the last truck stop we were at.  And this is 4-8 inches on roads that are hilly and twisty.  Then we checked the temps!!  Highs in the 30’s; lows in the 20’s!!  We could have stayed in Minnesota for that!  🙂

So then it was on to Camping 2018 Plan B!  First we called our on staff meteorologist (Jenny) and she looked at the forecasts and maps trying to find what direction we needed to go for any kind of warmer weather.  Her advice?  South and then West.  So all of the planning has gone by the wayside and my penciled in calendar has been erased.  (Glad I brought the industrial strength eraser along!!)  The new plan is to plan only 1 or 2 days in advance and risk that we will find something.  Talk about real nomads!!  As David said, there is always WalMarts — although, does Nebraska have WalMarts?  So that is our current plan — head south to Nebraska!  And keeping with our no more than 200 miles a day plan, we will either stay in Neligh or Burwell Nebraska.  Both areas have first come first serve campgrounds so we can only hope that not too many people are camping on a Sunday night in northern Nebraska!!  Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update — Neligh, Burwell or WalMart!!  🙂
