BBQ and Klutz :-)

Today in our quest for local cuisine, we tried to find a BBQ place because certainly Texas should have great BBQ!!  We did some searching and looked at Yelp reviews and found the highly rated Delvin’s Restaurant.  Although when we could not find it on the GPS in the truck it was a little troubling — we have had our share of sketchy driving!!

The parking lot was pretty full which was a good sign.

This place reminded us of one of our favorite BBQ places back in Monroe.  Along with great BBQ they offered catfish.  I got the ribs and brisket and David got the catfish special.  Both were very good and I can see why this is a favorite with the locals.  It was a typical BBQ place where you place your order and then take the number to your table and they bring it there.  There were some interesting condiments at the table also….not for the Minnesota taste though.

On the way home, we decided to bypass the normal route on the GPS and instead take one of the alternate routes that would not take the interstate, which is under construction.  That was an interesting drive!!  Stoplights on every corner, dips in the roads and sketchy houses on every block.  It is always an adventure with us!!  Just glad we were not pulling the trailer!!

Klutz

Many of you know, and I self admit, I am without a doubt, a klutz!!  (Sorry kids…sometimes like mother, like kids!!)  In the camper, we have 2 steps that separate the living area from the bedroom/bath area.  Probably the 3rd day on this trip, I was coming down the steps at night (and they are dark brown), and I slipped just slightly.  After that David installed a great motion sensing light that comes on at the exact time needed!!

Jackie had actually picked that up for us when we were still in Minnesota!  So it was an absolutely life saver!!  Well, here comes the klutzy part….I got up one morning.  I always like to get up early and read when it is still quiet.  So as I headed down the steps, with socks on, Max in one hand and my phone in the other, I stepped down and BAM slipped right down the steps!!!  I felt my back hit the edge of that top step although it was not too bad at first.

That was probably 5 days ago.  The black and blue mark is now gone, but last night the pain fired up like crazy!!!   I really thought I was way past that!!  You know how they ask what the pain is on a scale from 1-10 — this was very much a high 8.  Trying to sleep last night was a challenge because each time I tried to turn that “tinge of pain” would zap through me.  Anyone that has had back issues knows what I am saying.  I tried Advil, Doan’s back pills and then Tylenol.  I would say the pain is down to a 6 after that cocktail of over the counter stuff!!

Needless to say, I am not moving very well and certainly would not be a very good co-pilot as we try to pack up and leave.  So this morning we decided to stay in Amarillo until Monday morning.  We want to be sure and be in a place to see the Vikings game on Sunday and just thought we would stay here where we know we can get somewhat of a TV signal.  So healing would be really nice in the next few days!!

Right now our plan is to head to New Mexico and I think we will stop at Roswell and see if any aliens are hanging out there!  We have a couple of other sites we want to go to in NM and then it will almost be time to head towards our 3 month residence in Arizona.  I think we have finally scared away the cold weather and hopefully do not have to look at the weather maps for chances of snow at all!!

Hope you are all well!
