Fall

This time of year, and being in the south, I really miss the Fall!!  The colors in the Midwest are so glorious and awe-inspiring!  A few years back we were driving my Dad along the Mississippi River on the Wisconsin side, when the colors were at their peak!  Even though he had experienced a lot of things in his life he was in awe of the colors along the bluffs and how brilliant they were.  He just keep looking out the windows of the van and expressed his amazement!!  I miss the scents in the air — seeing people burning their leaves right in the middle of the street and the great Fall smell that produced  (I know…probably not good for the atmosphere).  That smell of burning leaves is so distinct!  The last few years when we were in Monroe, Louisiana, we had some Fall colors, with a couple of trees that were brilliant red.  But we did not have leaves to rake in the yard as we had for so many years in Corcoran.  Yard work in the Fall is like closing the garage door on summer!

The kids were all doing yard work this year and that really brought back the memories of Fall.  Although when we were in Corcoran, it took DAYS to get all the leaves since we had hundreds of trees and close to an acre that had to be raked!!  These are some pictures of the kids doing yard work:

It does give me a sense of missing out on something.  I also asked Jenny to send me a yard work picture — they rent a townhome so really have no yard work to do, but she sent me this picture of her blowing the leaves out of the driveway!  🙂

She better enjoy it now….they move in to a house on November 1 and will have their fair share of yard work next year!

Being in Texas right now, things are still green….I know boo-hoo…but when you are used to the colors of Fall it is kind of disappointing!!  I try to appreciate the non-Fallness that is part of the south, but I still miss the Minnesota Fall a lot!
