One (of many) things I love about being in Minnesota is having the opportunity to decorate our yard with flowers, lights and other little trinkets. With it being a cold Spring I waited a little longer before I did any planting, but I think I am done…at least for now! 🙂
One thing that we have brought with us from Corcoran to Louisiana and then back here are the garden statues that I have purchased to celebrate each of the grandchildren. These are the ones for Caley, Emily and Erin.
I have been looking both here and Arizona for one for Jaxen and did not have any luck. Then a couple of weeks ago I was in Fleet Farm and FINALLY find some garden statues. This one is a boy, with his dog, which reminded me of Jaxen and Monte, so it was perfect!

Certainly Monte is much bigger….LOL, but I can see this as a real life scenario as Jaxen gets older and they could nap together.
Every year, I plant flowers around the street light that is in our yard. I go back and forth with colors and types and put in very different colors this year. I usually go with purples, of course, but this year went a different direction. I always wanted a gazing ball so added that to the mix this year, thus the reference to “trinkets”.
The flowers look small around the light pole, but within a few weeks I will wonder how many hundreds of plants I put in, it will be so thick. Although they announced in the annual meeting on Saturday that they are going to power wash all of the light poles – so I can only imagine what damage that may do. We are at the far end of the park so maybe they will not get to our pole until Fall — I can hope!!
Two years ago, I bought the pieces for a fairy garden. It just looked so cool. I did not put it in last year because the year before when I did put it in it just got kind of lost. One day when I was walking, I found what I thought would be the perfect spot for it and I think it turned out great. I also found a solar light (again at Fleet Farm) that I put over the top of the garden so the fairy has some light to read at night. 🙂

In the center of the yard, we have an area that has some hostas and other perennials so I don’t have to do a lot there, but fill up the wishing well. There is also a humming bird feeder in the area and a bird bath. Humming birds do not seem to like my feeder this year!! I love the mason jar solar light that is above the flowers in the wishing well. It really looks great at night.

I always seem to have an issue keeping the hanging plant alive whatever kind I get. This year I got a Full Sun plant and hope it will make it. A couple others….two plants in front of the tree in the front, the annuals that go along the path to the garage and a climbing plant that I am trying for the first time. There are a good amount of hostas along the driveway which is nice and maintenance free! I am far from having a green thumb and just hope these will all survive this year!!
I am having fun adding solar lights this year….probably too much!! I just went to Target yesterday and they were on sale for $3 each so I had to get three more!! David will be happy once they start putting away all of the garden stuff for the year and bring out the back to school stuff!! 🙂
