Hello and Happy Day # whatever of Quarantine. As I have said before being retired it can be hard to know what day it is….and now being quarantined knowing the day AND the # day of quarantine is all a blur!! So maybe I should go with what Star Trek always used, which I am sure were just made up —
“Captain’s Log Quarantine Date 20193.141592 65358979323846″…..something that seems to go on forever!! 🙂
A number of years ago, I was able to complete both my Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Online via the University of Phoenix! I remember at that time, online learning was still so very new and looked on by some people as not “real”. Believe me, I did not achieve my A average with not a huge amount of effort. School consumed me, as my family would attest to and often on weekends I could only allocate a couple of hours of non-study time. I was determined to keep my GPA up!! Who knew that I was probably one of some of the pioneers of online learning!!
And now more and more universities are offering online classes and even online full degrees. And with this time of quarantine, EVERYONE is doing online learning!!! WOW!! My perspective of my online experience was interesting and the team activities were the most challenging as others didn’t want to always play their parts — so if you wanted a good grade, you picked up the slack! I am hoping that aspect has changed and individuals are more accountable.
So with now even the kids doing online learning, I asked my granddaughters, Erin and Emily to share this experience. Emily, who is 16, is probably too cool to do that but Erin did share some tidbits and was interesting to hear about.
All of the students have gmail accounts since the school has already been using Chrome Books, so that aspect was a good start. Erin said each morning she gets a bunch of emails with assignments.

From those emails they know their assignments and they may get extra information to tackle like discussion questions.

Erin said she gets this everyday which shows her class schedule and she can use those links to make it easier to find her assignments.

It seems like they have the distance learning pieced figured out pretty good for the kids. Of course, kids are so used to doing everything online, it is probably a natural for them! Pretty good that they could figure out a way for the kids to continue with learning while at home. This is Erin after she finished her work for the day!! She is drinking LaCroix water in that martini glass! 🙂

The hard life of a student!!!
Hopefully everyone is being creative in keeping their minds occupied during this time of craziness. I know some days it can be hard….I know I have my hard days and even more when I think we may not be able to get back to MN this year!! I said even if we can only go back for a couple of months, we have to figure out how to do it!!
Our fun little adventure for the week was watching the Vikings/Packer game from 2009 when Bret Favre was our quarterback. It was fun that ESPN replayed that to watch!!

And to keep up with tradition!!
