Yes, it has been a very long time since I have updated my blog. I am not even going to try to write any excuses because I have used them all and they are OLD news. So I am just going to move forward, cover my ears and pretend that I did not ignore my blog for almost 2 months!
Let’s first catch up on our stay in Minnesota. We had decided to stay a couple of extra months after Christmas since Jackie was due 2/14 and since she was high risk we figured we could help them out both before baby Larkins arrived and after. We rented a house in Richfield, which thankfully had a detached garage where we could park the Tesla and plug it in. It is very slow charging, but it was great to be able to have the cover from the snow and cold that was part of every day in MN.
I usually walked Max around the neighborhood, there were no sidewalks really there, and it gave me a chance to look at all the interesting houses in the area. Most were like the one we were staying in: simple 2 bedroom, 1 bath, small kitchen, but we also had a finished basement, which was a nice addition. Just thinking about the families that were raised in these small houses!! To them, it was probably not small and they made it work with the small kitchens and small dining area. Made me think of our BP home that had the very small kitchen….but it worked for almost 20 years and we really did not know what room you could have in a kitchen, dining room, etc. until we got to the Corcoran house. But not only were these Richfield homes somewhat similar, it was also interesting to observe how creatively people would make their house bigger with additions. In contrast to St. Louis Park where they see to add “up”, there were very few houses that looked like they added up, but more to the side, or even into the backyard and connecting to the garage. I did look to see when the house was built that we rented and it was 1952. How different that neighborhood must have looked back then, yet all the houses were similar and great family homes during that era.
We did help Jackie and Jermar with a number of projects before baby was born, but as things got closer, they started to watch Jackie more closely and knew they would move up the date for the c-section, so it was nice to get the things done that she wanted in advance. Jackie is quite the planner, so I knew if we did not help her with this projects, she would want to take them on her own….LOL…so she made a list and we worked through it over the weeks after Christmas. This included setting up the baby cams both upstairs and downstairs, hanging the pictures she wanted in baby’s room, some caulking, and other various projects. She was still working during this time, so Jaxen was still in daycare so projects went smoothly during the day, when a little helper was not trailing along. 🙂
