Jaylen

After a month of waiting, helping with projects and trying to make sure Jaxen was as used to us as possible, the day finally arrived. Actually the weekend before we did a dry run where Jaxen stayed overnight with us at the rental while Jackie and Jermar enjoyed a little date night and sleep in morning before baby arrived.

Before the big day, Jackie had a big day in that she turned 40!!! Since it was the day before the c-section, we knew we could not celebrate with her, so we decided to set up a Zoom call with the family to wish her Happy Birthday. What Jackie did not know, is one of her friends from Kemps, Claire, and I conspired to invite her friends from work to the Zoom Call. Even her current boss, the CFO, who was on vacation in Florida joined the call in the beginning to wish her Happy Birthday. I think she was quite surprised and it was fun to see her expressions as she saw more work people jump on the call!!

I am sure it will be a birthday that Jackie will not forget is so many ways!!

The next morning (1/26) Jackie and Jermar dropped off Jaxen at daycare in the morning and went to the hospital. They were told by the doctors that once Jermar came in to the hospital he would not be able to leave, due to the COVID restrictions. So he knew he would be there the whole time Jackie was there. The doctors were definitely prepared for any issues and had already arranged to have 2 surgeons in the room to make sure all would go good.

Little Jaylen Jeffrey Larkins finally decided to make his way into this cold world on Tuesday, 1/26 weighing 5 lbs 2 oz – we knew at 37 weeks he would be small!!

Meanwhile we were at the house with Jaxen, who we picked up at daycare that afternoon and he was not the happiest seeing me rather than his mom or dad. Later Jackie and Jermar facetimed with him, and that really helped him to realize that mom and dad were just away for awhile.

The three days with Jaxen went fine…he had a couple of meltdowns really missing his mom and dad, but it worked out very well.

On Thursday, late in the day, Jackie was released from the hospital and they came home to share baby brother with big brother. We let them have some alone time so Jaxen could try to take it all in. He really was not too fond of this new little creature invading his space at first!!

I know in no time, they will become great buddies and friends and trying to figure out how to drive their mom and dad crazy! 🙂
