Time to brush off the dust of this little blog! Yes, I have not written since last year when we took our winter vacation to Florida. Well, we are off for winter vacation again, so time to do some blogging.
First some background on this winter trip. For a couple of months we had discussed going to California, Texas or Florida. David has always wanted to drive the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) so that was our final choice. Although we still went back and forth on the other destination…Texas to visit Boca Chica and maybe finally see the launch of the star ship or Florida to see NASA and maybe a launch there! But no, we settled on Florida. I spend a number of days writing up a detailed spreadsheet outlining each days drive and any tourist areas we should plan to visit. I had potential AirBNBs at the 4 cities that we would stay for more than a day and listed cities we should stop at even on a driving day. Well, then the blizzard of 2023 hit Minnesota so we had to push out our departure by 2 days…not really a big deal since our schedule is pretty flexible. But then we started to look at the long range forecasts for the coast of California and it was rain, rain and only in the 50’s or 60’s, maybe a little of the 70’s. So now it was time for a reassessment.
First we contacted Jenny, our family meteorologist, to confirm what we were seeing. And yes, it seemed that our planned visit coincided with the rainy/cool season along the California coast! So now it was time to Plans B and C and maybe even D (just stay home)!! 🙂 So leaving 2 days late, and really just a day by day overview of where we want to go, not a detailed spreadsheet, we set out from our house this morning and are now in Oshkosh, WI. We first visited Mihm’s Charcoal Grill in Menasha, the famous steak burger grill, that has just reopened. And our next planned stop will be Raleigh, NC so we can see the Jeff Dunham Comedy Show on Thursday. After that we will head towards Florida!!
So this is our first day on the road. Tomorrow we hope to drive 297 miles to Lafayette, IN. Sounds like one exciting town!!
Time for some pictures…..it has been way too long!
