A couple of days of driving and one day of layover, we are now in Virginia! The journey was like this….
First a little observation in Oshkosh when I was walking Max. In the parking lot was a truck…Ford…Chevy…doesn’t matter, but it was a Green Bay Packers Edition!! Cool…right? So I continued on the walk and thought I need to go back and take a picture of that “special” truck. And when I went back to the spot where it had been parked….POOF…it was gone…I thought kind of like the Packers season went POOF!!! 🙂 I know, the Vikings were not exactly stellar in the post season, but at least we got there!
So off to Lafayatte Indiana we went.

So on to our travels. The drive to Indiana was pretty uneventful….some rush hour traffic but not bad. Well then we started to get weather warning indications on our phones and it looked like crazy stuff may be heading our way. Had we gone on our CA trip we would have been in OKC today and there they had a couple of tornadoes. Looking at the forecast (our first mistake) it looked like the next morning would be horrible driving with thunderstorms and high winds so we decided to stay an extra day. I guess the beauty of no real plans is that we can just make this type of decision. So we stayed the extra day, and the “big storms” kind of fizzled. Yes there was a good amount of wind, but not sure we ever hear even any thunder!! Oh well, it was kind of a real “vacation” day!
So we left on Tuesday and drove through Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia!

Oh dang, I forgot that we stopped at the Mars Cheese Castle on our travels! Every single kind of cheese you can imagine there! And supposedly the “World’s Famous Cheese Curds” that did not even come close to the MN State Fair!! David was going to go to the manager and protest the “World’s” part, but thought it better not to get escorted out by the Cheese police! They did have a selection of hot sauces that were pretty crazy!

When we started this Plan B or C trip, I knew we would encounter tolls in the Chicago area and I thought also Indiana. So I did some research and saw both used the Toll By Plate which we have used in the past, which was quite handy. Easy to just drive through and then pay online! Well, then we came in to West Virginia!! Their tolls are not Toll By Plate, but you have to actually pay and only cash. We don’t often have cash with us on a daily basis, but always do on our trips. So thankfully we had cash otherwise our kids may have had to bail us out of West Virginia jail!! But David and I were talking about the tolls and having to pay cash and our GPS was leading the way. All of a sudden it took us off the freeway, just before the toll booth, and took us on an “alternate” route in a little back country of West Virginia and then after a few miles took us back on the freeway. I said it was like the car heard us, because as you can see by the map, the “alternate” route was parallel to the freeway! The slight sound of the music from Deliverance was playing in our minds on this “alternate” route!

But the drive through this hills of West Virginia was really pretty. Almost like a roller coaster with the ups and downs but without the fear of not surviving. We stop and took a couple of sunset pictures and then finished the rest of the 15 minutes in to Virginia for our stop for the night.

So we are off this morning to Mount Airy, which is the home to the Andy Griffith Museum! (I know you are whistling the Mayberry theme right now!!) It will be fun to see the collection that he had from the show.
