On September 11, I went back to Park Nicollet for the 2nd MRI. Both the radiologist and Dr. Chen felt they did not get a full picture of the mass so wanted another view.
On the 13th, Dr. Chen called and said she was worried about the “blob” (Thus the nickname “Bob the Blob”) that they are seeing. Thankfully, I think, it was not in the bone as first thought, but actually in the muscle between the hamstring and quad muscle. Dr. Chen indicated that a biopsy would be the next step, so she put in a request for radiologist to conduct the biopsy. Chen was concerned because this “blob” was near important structure that need to be avoided so that is why they may be hesitant to do. I asked her if it could be a reoccurrence of lymphoma and she said it would be a real oddball if it were. So we wait to hear from the radiologist.
The next day, the 14th, Shelby, Dr. Chen’s nurse called me to say that radiology would not do the biopsy without consultation with orthopedic. Dr. Chen put orders in for orthopedic consultation with radiology.
The next day, the 15th, Shelby called again and said that neither radiology nor orthopedic wanted to risk the biopsy. So the next step would be Mayo because U of MN is not covered by our Humana insurance. Shelby indicated that Chen has already contacted Mayo to get the process started. Chen also requested that I get a CT scan.
Official a Mayo Patient #xxxxxxxx
Received a call about an hour after the conversation with Shelby, from Mayo Orthopedic Oncology. Mayo still needs to review the MRI and the doctor reports, which they had not received at this point. Once they get all of the information, they will determined if they will “accept” me as a patient.
Contacted Shelby again and asked her to push the MRI images and all doctor notes directly to Ortho Oncology at Mayo. Shelby also indicated that I am scheduled for a CT Scan on Tuesday, the 19th at Maple Grove Park Nicollet.
And with all this craziness going on, David left on Monday, the 18th for a 10 day trip to New York with his brother, Dick, so they could attend a science symposium. Who knew that all of this with Mayo would happen so quickly…so I told him to go ahead and go thinking nothing would happen in the week he was gone.
