Wow I cannot believe that it has been over a month since this all started. On this rainy Tuesday, it is time to try to catch up so I can have a diary of what has happened and reactions to most of it.
First, I do want to remember something positive in that the Vikings won last night and it was Monday Night Football and the SF 49ers. I am trying to remind myself each day of something positive since some days seem kind of gray instead of sunny.
Back to my diary…last I wrote, I knew I would go back to Mayo for biopsies. This was on Friday, the 22nd (September) at St. Mary’s at Rochester Mayo. Another new building…LOL Since David was still in NY, Jackie drove with me to Rochester. That was nice to also spend one on one time with her and she is pretty familiar with Rochester since Kemps has some offices and ice cream manufacturing there. The biopsy went fine and they took about 8 samples. They told me that probably the worst part was the numbing shot, similar to novacain, but that was really not bad. I did tell the team that I had told the kids that I thought there was a spider in there and the lump was its eggs. One of the nurses said if spiders come out of there, I will be half way to Winona!! I asked to see the samples just to see what they look like. There were 8 squiggly wormy things in a clear solution. Really fascinating!!
Results
The good or bad thing about having patient portals is that I get an email as soon as results are posted. I can look at the Findings, but there are so many medical terms I was not sure what was good or bad. But the word “tumor” was there so I knew it was not the best. The term in the Findings was: “Positive for neoplasm. Hybrid hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous tumor/ pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor. Sections show an inflitrative proliferation of hemosiderin-laden CD34-positive spindled cells, in areas aggregating around small, damaged blood vessels, characteristic of hemosiderotic flbrolipomatous tumor (early pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor).” As you can read, lots of big terms. They also confirmed that I tore my hamstring, which is probably the least of our worries right now. 🙂
Tuesday of the next week Dr. Houdak called to confirm that there is a tumor about 9-12 cm. It is considered non-benign and non-malignant…which seems very strange….how can it be both “non”. Doctor said they would treat it as sarcoma. Next step would be to meet with a radiation oncologist.
Carefree
In between all of this, we needed to get Carefree closed up so the team could come an winterize it. We always seem to have a lot of stuff that we bring back and forth so we had to get that stuff packed. We coordinated the last Board Meeting with Zoom and then were done with our Carefree duties for the 2023 season. Also got in a hair cut for me and a groom for Max since I knew we would probably be back and forth to Rochester.
Next meeting with the Radiation Oncologist!
