So last Thursday, I had 2-1/2 hours between appointments. A couple of times as I was passing between buildings in the subway level I saw something called the “Quiet Room”….so I asked when I was getting radiation if the technologist knew what this room was about. She said they have an area with recliners where patients can go in and rest and not even talking is allowed in that area. So since I had this long gap I decided I would check it out.
The room is monitored by a volunteer and when you first walk in there are computers that are available for us and then there is an L shaped room enclosed in glass where there are about 10 recliners. I went in and found a good spot…there was an empty chair on my left and 2 empty chairs on my right. I was a little worried that if I did doze would I wake up in time for my appointment, so I set an alarm on my phone and laid my phone right below my chin so I would hear the alarm quickly and it was also in quick reach. So my quiet relaxing time was not starting out so relaxing as I worried about both of these. But I did settle in to a great relax, not quite dozing off but very relaxed. Then the guy to my right 3 chairs down started snoring sooooo loud!! So much for quiet!!! LOL. I understand that people snore, but too bad this was in the quiet room. So then I had to worry about if I did fall asleep would I snore?!?!?! So I know I would most likely not fall asleep but I could get in a relaxing mode….and then the chair next to me was occupied by a lady who quickly laid on her side….and started to snore!!! Oh My GOODNESS!!
So this is the scenario…I am in a “quiet” room, with people snoring on each side of my…the guy 3 chairs on almost super sonic noise level, the woman next to me, just above a speaking voice level, I am worried about falling asleep and doing the same….worried about if I wake up in time for my appointment…and worried that the alarm that I set will make a noise in this not so quiet, quiet room!!! YIKES!!! So much for relaxation. But you know after I left on my way to see the radiation oncologist, I did kind of chuckle thinking about the rule that no talking in the quiet room, but they may need to add no snoring too!! 🙂
Just 3 days of radiation left. I can definitely feel more pain sensation in the leg and oh my did the fatigue hit me today. I told David I was gobsmacked with tiredness and needed to take an immediate nap this afternoon!!
I did stop at Hobby Lobby and got some final things for the anniversary dinner on Saturday. And I was very surprised to walk in and see that all of their Christmas stuff was 50% off…so of course I had to get some things. I want to have a small lighted tree in the house we stay in for the surgery and found one of those ceramic types with lights and a star on the top that will work perfectly.
We did go back to Blaine this past weekend and had the opportunity to watch the boys for a couple of hours while Jackie and Jermar enjoyed an evening out with the Jens. Each time we see those boys they talk more and more and come up with great imaginative stories….Jaxen playing Spider Man and saving us from the bad guys. One of my fears is that after surgery I will be limited in being able to play with them. I hope that is only temporary and over time the leg will heal and allow more flexibility.
Beautiful Sunset time….so grateful that the Fall days provide that beauty sometimes!!
Take care!
I really enjoyed your post. Very funny and well written!
