PET and Music

Today I had my 3 month PET scan. Seems like it was good…the nurse called this afternoon and said there were no signs of lymphoma or sarcoma!!! YEA!!!

But I wanted to write about the PET scan process, which if you think about it, it is kind of spooky!! They inject you with sugary, radioactive stuff and then you have to rest for an hour before they do the scan. The nurse starts the IV and then makes sure that the sugar level is ok to administer the IV. Once they determine that sugar level is good, they leave the room and go to the “hot” room to get the IV liquid. “Hot” is exactly how the room is labeled. The room you are sitting in says “radioactive” all around. When the nurse comes back with the syringe that will be added to the IV, it is inside a solid metal box…he opens it and takes out the syringe and then administers it. Isn’t that kind of creepy!! Once administered, and the chair was heated and I had a heated blanket, he said go ahead and nap if you want I will be back in an hour. I told him hopefully I do not snore too loud if I fall asleep. He said well this room is lead lined so if we hear your snoring outside the room that will be quite impressive….and then he laughed. So the room is labeled “radioactive” all around, it is lead lined, the syringe liquid comes from a “hot” room and you have to wait an hour for the liquid to pass through the body. Really it is all kind of creepy!! Good thing I no longer have to walk Max at night or I might be glowing as I walk around the neighborhood!! 🙂

Music

As I often say, I love to have an hour or more to play music on my keyboard. My sister, Marcia, gave me a great link to a ton of free PDF sheet music that you can download, which I will definitely take advantage of. But I have really enjoyed a number of the songs from Les Miserables. I have never seen a production of that or even the movie that came out a few years ago. But I just love the music. So a couple of weeks ago, I watched the movie and oh my goodness was that a emotional movie. I didn’t even know what it was about before I watched it — it is set in 19th century France and the life that people were living during that time period. It was just crazy!! My observation was that I really enjoyed the music when I heard it or played it, but once I saw the movie and the setting that many of these songs entailed I wondered how a piece of music could be so beautiful, but also very emotional once applied to the setting intended. Now playing those songs have a new meaning as I play them on the keyboard. Not saying that this is negative, it is just an interesting observation.

Cold here in Minnesota…below zero, but is supposed to get close to 30 in the next few days. But then it sounds like more intense cold on its way. Oh well…good ole Minnesota winter.

And I am not going to talk about the Vikings…I will just say “oh well, always next year!” Seems to me I say that every year at the end of the football season. It was a fun season this year though!!

Stay warm…and be nice and kind!
