Yesterday I had my 3 month check with Dr. Chen. All looked good…labs good and no lumps or bumps detected.
I then brought up my experience with the colonoscopy in July…maybe I already whined about this, but this will help me remember. 🙂 I really wanted to have the surgeon that did my right hemocoloctomy do the procedure…he had told me he wanted to do any that I had in the future. But when trying to make the appointment, I was told Dr. Willis no longer does procedures. 😦 So I just took a chance and let them assign the doctor.
The prep went fine, but that doctor had absolutely NO bedside manner. After she was done, she stood behind me and mumbled that I needed to come back in 3 years….usual is 5 years and that she found polyps. But it was hard to understand her, especially that she was not talking directly to me, so I was confused. I later looked on My Chart and saw there were 4 polyps found…so I understood the 3 year return, but too bad she did not explain that to me.
So then I got a survey on how my procedure went and boy did I let all my thoughts go. 🙂 I was very disappointed that I could not see Dr. Willis and the doctor I did have was just not a good patient doctor, I would say. I probably used all the number of words I was allowed on that feedback, submitted it and never heard anything back.
So I told Dr. Chen what I thought of that doctor and when she looked at who it was she said “well she is one of the very best doctors!” Chen has consulted with her on cases because she is considered the best. So now I have a conundrum when I have my 3 year check do I go back to “one of the best” but absolutely NO bedside manner or take my chance on someone else? Does a doctor really matter with this procedure? And if I asked for her again, would I risk that she read that survey and may have even WORSE bedside manner!! LOL Definitely a conundrum!!
I see Chen again in 3 months. Will also go back to Mayo in November. At Mayo they will do an MRI of the leg and a chest CT since sarcomas like to hide out in the chest area. So Chen will wait until my April check and will then do a PeT scan….certainly don’t want to get in a stand off with the insurance company. So Chen tries to keep both scans about 6 months apart. Anything to make those wonderful insurance companies happy!
I still need to write about Mackinaw City and Duluth and post pictures, which I will do. Just wanted to write my Chen update while still fresh.
Keep positive…remember to get your colonoscopy if it is time…and Enjoy Fall
