Paul McCartney at US Bank Stadium

Friday, the 17th of October was the night of Paul McCartney’s Get Back tour in Minneapolis. We bought our tickets months ago…didn’t really realize they were VIPs and didn’t know exactly what that entailed. They were pricey but really this has to be his last tour….he is like 84 or so! 🙂 Being VIPs we got a little package before hand with Paul goodies like posters, a watch and lanyards saying we were VIPs. But more, we got access to the Polaris suite, which was a great plus.

Going to the concert took some planning because we have not been downtown, except for the Opheum a couple of weeks earlier in a number of years. Where do we park? Should we take the Blue Line from the Mall of America? Should we stay downtown and shuttle there? Should we stay outside of downtown and Uber to the stadium? We even thought of parking at the Larkins and Ubering from there. Well the day before, I searched for close by parking and found a parking garage where we could reserve ahead of time and it was only 1 block to the stadium. During Vikings games, etc. it is considered the VIP garage. It was a great choice!! It was a quick walk over to the stadium but then it was security to go through! 🙂

I had checked online to see if or what kind of purse was allowed. So they provided specific measurements that was allowed, otherwise you had to have something that was see through. I measured my little purse and it was over by 1/4 of an inch but decided to take the chance. Interesting, there is a truck that is parked right outside the entry if you purse/backpack does not pass the requirements where you can rent a locker and put it in there. (Hopefully the truck does not just pull away once they have everyone’s valuables!! LOL ) As we neared the security “inspectors” I was a tad nervous thinking they would measure and turn me around…LOL…but they barely looked at the size and just sent me through. Leave it to me to worry…as I always do. The tickets were on my phone and getting through those scanners took some time too, but it really went well.

Someone showed us how to get to our section, V2, and that is when we found out that we could lounge in the Polaris suite. Since our seats were in the 5th row, and the stairs are VERY LONG to get down there, we stayed in the suite until about 30 minutes before the concert. It really worked out great!

Before the concert, they had a DJ on stage that just played Beatles/Wings/Paul McCartney songs. Then at 8, when the concert was scheduled to start they played a video on the big screens that was really an evolution through the years of Paul and some of the other Beatles. The screens were huge and made it easy to see. Actually throughout the concert we watched the screens rather than the stage. Even though we were only 5 rows from the main floor, being in a football stadium that floor is so wide, it was not easy to see on the stage. Plus the stage was deep and then there was a fence area around it so even the first room seats were quite a ways from the stage. But the cameras did a great job showing Paul on the screen and the sound was great!

View from our seats!

He really put on a great show! It was close to 3 hours long, with no one other than him performing. And some of the pyrotechnics’ were incredible!! Definitely a great show and really glad we had the chance to see him in person. He still plays the guitar amazingly and had a few songs on the piano that were great too. I worried a little about him climbing the stairs to go to the piano…LOL…me always worrying…and they didn’t even provide a hand rail for him!!

Leaving was pretty good. We stayed in our seats until the aisles cleared out and went to the parking garage and got out pretty quickly. We did see the wait for the blue line to go back to the Mall of America and it was HUGE!!! So glad we did not go with that option. It was a fun evening for sure!

Sing a song today…hum to yourself…enjoy life!
