Yes I am alive and well in Florida. Could have lots of excuses for not posting….but really crappy internet is the main reason and sunny skies is another. 🙂
Starting from the beginning of our trip….we left on Friday the 30th and drove to Rockford, IL. Jackie had a hotel that she recommended that was nice, although it was still soooooo cold walking from the public parking was kind of a bummer. The hotel should warn you that parking is not attached to the building. The room was amazing and the building itself was very historic. You could take a tour and learn the history more but decided not to do that. The stay was pretty uneventful except about 10 pm when we were in the room and some guy opened his door and hollered “Will someone shut that f***ing dog up!!” YIKES!! These days you never know what anger may generate in a person so we just looked at each other and didn’t say anything. True there was a dog continually barking but I guess I just learned to ignore it. Well in about 10 minutes it did get very quiet so I guess something worked.
Next it was to Paducah, Kentucky. We decided to stay again in a Drury hotel since they have a happy hour, with 2 free drinks and appetizers so we found we could use that as our supper. Well in Kentucky apparently a law was passed that they could not give you drinks for free but had to pay $1 which still was fine. We enjoyed the appetizers and went up to sleep so we could get an early start in the morning.
Next stop was Birmingham Alabama to another Drury. On the way we stopped at a Tesla charger and there was an older gentlemen with 2 good size dogs that was trying to charge a Chevy EV which you need an adapter for, can’t just directly use the Tesla charger. David has a bag of adapters, but none fit for the Chevy. That guy told David “I don’t know nothin’ about these electrical cars!!” We assume he was transporting it for someone. He said he didn’t quite make it to the charger before he ran out and with this charger being at a gas station he stopped right in the driveway but some young men helped him push it into the charger. We suggested maybe he call a Chevy dealer in that town that could maybe help!!
We also drove through Nashville. That is where maybe a week before they had that horrible ice storm. As we were driving in there were still some trees that were coated in ice. Unbelivable!! We talked to a couple of locals and their friends were told that they may not still have any electricity for at least a week!! After we left, I thought they were locals….I should have asked if they were someone famous. After all don’t they say everyone in Nashville was a singer, songwriter or a hopeful!! They were trying to charge their Ford EV, but chargers were all full so they were waiting for ours. He said he also had a Tesla Y at home but forget to plug it in the night before.
Birmingham we were still in sweatshirts and sweat pants!!! Can you believe it??? Thought for sure out next stop, Panama City Beach would surely have some warmth to great us!!
On to the next adventure with pictures!
Be kind…say something nice to someone!!!
