The last time I updated this blog was February 18th — wow how the world has changed in that month!!! Just a month ago so many words were not a part of our every day vocabulary how now become common words in our daily thoughts and words: COVID-19, shelter in place, Tax Day now July 15th, quarantine, etc. We all have our own descriptions through this last few weeks.
It seems not too long ago that Jackie, Jermar and Jaxen visited and shortly after that Jenny, Emily and Erin. I do have great pictures and memories to post with both of their visits and will post those also, since I do not want to pass by those fun times we had with our visitors. But first I wanted to write about what I am experiencing and maybe others are also.
Just after Jenny and the girls left, David suggested we go to the grocery store and get at least 2 weeks worth of meals. I do have to admit that I did a mental eye-roll at that suggestion thinking that this virus talk was just blown out of proportion!! In this day and age, I thought there is no way we would go through something like this across the world. How quickly I was proven wrong and soon was very thankful that we did the extra shopping. (I did apologize for my mental eye roll at some point in time!!) Now we did not hoard things and only got 1 container of TP, but definitely took advantage of the shelves being at least half full to prepare for a couple of weeks of meals. Then as the days went on, and since both David and I are considered high risk, the thought of going to a grocery store seemed kind of risky so for the first time I tried Instacart to get groceries delivered. It was OK, but they were out of so many things that I wanted, I may try the “senior hour” at our grocery store next Tuesday and see if that is a better option!
But rest assured, even though “shelter in place” is in effect even as close to us as California, the golfers are still out on the course!!
We did something fun last night. Jackie had suggested that we try to figure out how all of us could be on a conference call together since we were all pretty much staying at home. David had used Zoom for his Tuesday night book club so he sent out instructions to the kids (and granddaughter…LOL) on how to set up Zoom. Last night we had our first virtual Happy Hour and really had a fantastic time seeing and talking with everyone!!
Right now Zoom is for free, and they used to have a 40 minute restriction if you had 3 or more people on, but they have even lifted that right now, knowing that people are using this to connect in this time when most of us are staying away from others. Thanks Zoom!! We were on the call for close to 2 hours and have set up another one for next Friday. We said we would go ahead and host and if people want to join they can or if they would rather not, that is fine also!! It is just a chance to check in with everyone as a family!!
I wonder if anyone else wakes up in the morning like I do for a split second, thinking the book I was reading before I fell asleep has populated my brain so much I think it is all real. You know the book that you read that talks about a world wide pandemic, and while you are reading it you are thinking “this could never happen!!” And you wake up thinking it did happen, and you want to chuckle to yourself on how serious and life like your reading can get to you…..but then you remember, this is happening!!
It will be interesting to see if the states, like Arizona, that were slow to react, if it will have an impact. Maybe the powers that be, with all their statistics at hand, know so much more and it will be a moot point, but I was a little upset on our area’s slowness. We will see how that all pans out.
Well, I will update with more so I can document both visits with the girls. We had so much fun with them here, but now it seems like that all happened years ago. So I definitely want to sit down, write, post pictures so I do not forget those happy go lucky days before this storm hit the fan!
Hope everyone stays well, happy and healthy! And for those families that are locked up with their school age kids, make the best of it even though some days you feel on the edge. Lots of zoos around the country have live feeds that they are sharing (Shedd Aquarium for one) and they are posting great videos. There are virtual views of some of the greatest art galleries! And I have even heard of a streaming service that is showing Broadway shows for free! Lots of adventures out there. One of my favorite movie lines, from Mr. Mom is “keep your sense of humor, it’s critical!” I think that is very appropriate in these times!
Love you all!

Last night the governor of FL finally had to Demand that all restaurants close their onsite areas. They can still do food and alcohol takeout. This was the day after he demanded that the beaches closed down. I suspect this slowness is throughout the south.
