Wednesday Writings

This past weekend, all of the kids went up to our Big Lake place and got the water going, patio furniture moved out, golf carts started so it would all be ready that when we do head back to MN we can just drive up there, unlock, and be mostly settled.  At least settled enough to be able to go to the bathroom 🙂 which is important since none of the public ones are open at Carefree.  Here is some of their fun!  Looks like they even decided to have a little party while they were there!!  Crazy what quarantine will do!!  Even the teenagers joined in the fun!  Love it!!

About a week ago, as I was sitting ready early in the morning, I heard what sounded a slight knocking at the door.  Now this is the door that leads out to the deck, so not really where we would welcome visitors! It was kind of a tap-tap.

I got up from my reading chair and there standing in front of the door was a road runner!!!  (Of course, I left my phone at my chair so did not get a picture!!)  To most of us, we may think of this, when we think Road Runner — at least I have always thought that!

And we do have coyotes too!!  In fact the golf course below us is called Coyote Trails, so we could have a Road Runner/Coyote cartoon right in our own back yard!!  But I digress…because this is what the knocking Road Runner actually looked like!!

Ok, so maybe I am naive, but I never would have imagined that the above was what a Road Runner looked like!!!  When I was told we would see Road Runners here, I sort of expected to hear “beep-beep” as a blue imaged scurried by!!!  I will say that these little suckers are fast on the ground, as we have seen them running across the yard.  They often sit on our deck railings in the morning.  Talked to the neighbors and they have had them knocking on their bedroom patio door.  Either they want to get in, or they are seeing their reflection and want to fight the out RR out there!!  🙂

Also, the real Road Runner is not to be confused by the many statutes that people have in their yards here — this one had a little gecko on its back!

Oh and one of my biggest fears — snakes in Arizona!!!  The warnings came out last week, that the snakes are coming out of hibernation and already 3 people have been bit by rattlesnakes while hiking!!  This was my encounter while walking Max!!  Too close for me!!

Although I have been told that this is the “good” kind of snake because it is non-venomous and eats rattle snakes.  To me no snake is “good”!!  🙂

Well, hopefully soon the only snake I need to even think of is a good ole Minnesota gartersnake!!

I think I may have shared at least one of these, but these are just the cutest set of 3 pictures!!  I think they are ok to post again!!!
