Observations on this Cinco de Mayo

These past few days it has started to get warmer here in AZ.  This week it is expected to get close to 100 (Phoenix has already experienced these numbers) here in northern Arizona, which from what the locals tell me, is quite unusual.  When I get up around 6am I usually head out to the deck with my book and coffee.  This morning I also added the local weekly newspapers and have a little tidbit from that.  Around 8 the golfers start coming out.

Some golfing observations:

Men must forget that they are down in a valley and are surrounded with houses on the hills where not only me, but many others may be enjoying their morning coffee….but they still insist on peeing “in the woods” where they are in plain view for us on the hills!  🙂

When I do get to golf back in MN I will have a whole new set of golfing phrases and terms to use that I have learned while watching these golfers!!

There is a golfer that is usually on the course every day — twice in fact because he plays the 9 hole round twice.  This golfer is very distinctive in that he a) always has a red towel in his back posted b) has a long pony tail and c) smokes a cigar even in the middle of his swing.  This was him this morning:

What I find funny is that he often hits the ball into the woods and ends up on the hill looking for his ball.  It is kind of consistent that he does this — you would think he could adjust his swing a little to stay out of the woods, especially as the rattlesnakes are more active.

Speaking of rattlesnakes…..LOL…this morning I read an article about snake bits and found some interesting/humorous quotes:

“Thomas Jones, amphibians and reptiles program manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department, said ‘Arizona has more rattlesnake species ( Western diamondback, Mojave, black-tailed and sidewinder) than any other state, and we can all celebrate that amazing biodiversity!”   OK….there are lots of species…but CELEBRATE!!!  YIKES!!

“So far there have already been 39 bites reported in Arizona, 19 of which were in April.”  “Rattlesnakes can blend in easily with surroundings, so always look where you place your feet and hands.  Carry a flashlight at night, especially on warmer nights when rattlesnakes can be most active.”  I tell you right now this scaredy cat Minnesotan is NOT going out in the dark for any reason!!!  Max, you will have to cross your legs!!

“Remember, if you encountter a rattlesnake, the snake is more concerned with being left along and would rather not have to deal with you.  Slowly back away from the snake, give it a wide berth and continue on your way; an agitated rattlesnake will often hold its ground but will not chase you.”  So, I wonder if passing out would help the snake feel less agitated!!

Then there is a list of “what to dos if there is a snake bite — a couple where interesting:

“Remain calm and reassure the victim”  Yea right!!

Love this one…”Do not use electric shock treatment!”  What the heck????   Get me back to Minnesota!!!

And speaking of traveling back…this week we reviewed the “to-do” list for going back to Minnesota, and we all know how some people like their to-do lists, so this is a baby step forward in progress.  I am willing to take one little step at a time!!

Hope you are all doing well, staying healthy and getting “on your mark, get set, GO!!” to slowly go out and about.  Can’t wait to social distance at a restaurant.
