Just finished my MRI at Mayo. It seems every time I have one I forget what the last one was like so I question every thing that is happening. :-). So decided I would come back to the room and write about it so when I have it the next time I can review, remember, and not freak out over what I think is different from the last time.
For some reason I thought I would not have to get undressed for the MRI so I wore shorts to provide easy access to the surgery error. URRR….I was wrong. Do have to get undressed but thankfully Mayo has the greatest 3 hole gowns so you don’t walk around feeling a chilly breeze in your backend. ALL places should have these!! True, they do have to provide instructions on how you put it on, but once on you want to pack it up with you and take it to any “gown” appointment you may have at any facility.
The nurse came in to put in an IV which I thought was strange…seems like only PETs or CTs use contrast, but again this is why I am writing the details. Because you know me….IV???? There must be something they already know!! LOL I did ask the nurse and she said that they do it both ways and that it is determined by the surgeon and the radiology team. So I guess not so unusual. Going into the MRI room, as anyone knows that has had one, it is always soooo cold. They said that is because they need to keep the magnets happy! And it is noisy so they give you ear plugs. Always thought they should pump in music, but guess they found that people started to “dance” while in the MRI tube and ruined the pictures. They need you to stay completely still. So I told them they could just leave me in there and I would take a nap.
At first the noise is more like knock-knock and them finally the real noise starts which is kind of like the noise you might hear in old movies when the aliens were shooting at the humans. Such a variety of noises. So that started….and then I came out of the machine and just sat there for a minute….well more than a minute because I started to wonder if maybe they decided to let me take a nap or they all went out to lunch!! And they have still not done the contrast.
Nope, they didn’t forget about me because so I was going back into the tube. Same type of noises all over again. Of course I thought “are they doing more scanning then usual??”” See how my mind goes crazy — not only days leading up to the MRI but also while the MRI is going on!! Maybe I should have taken a CBD before I went in the tube. So they scanned again for a while and then finally announced that they would come in to start the IV. Started that and then back in to the tube followed by the similar noise patterns. Finally done after a few minutes and they said they got great pictures….I thought “great good” or “great bad”. They did say I stayed very still is what they need. Now it is time to wait….I see the surgeon at 2:30 today so will find out results then or maybe my Mayo Chart will be updated with the results. 🙂
Superstitions
A couple of weeks ago Darcee and Caley came over to watch the Vikings game with us. It was that Thursday night game and the Vikings lost, so we all decided we could never watch the game together again since that combination was apparently bad luck for the Vikings. I laughed and told them I thought the same thing a couple weeks before. As many of you know Max passed away in the Spring. I got a stuffed puppy that I call ‘puppy” that I often keep near me. We decided to watch a Vikings game in the theatre room one Sunday and I told David I needed to bring Puppy downstairs because Max always came downstairs and sat with me for the games. Well this Sunday the Vikings lost, so I had to tell Puppy he would need to stay upstairs.
Then I was reading a story about George Kittle, who is a Tight End for the 49’s. In yesterday’s game, their kicker was going to attempt a field goal. Kittle said that he never watches the field goal and always just stays on the bench. Well yesterday he decided to stand up with the other players and watch the kick and the kicker missed the field goal!!! Kittle said it was all his fault that the kicker missed!!! Superstitions in sports can definitely be a thing. In fact I have a Vikings Favre jersey that I will not wear to watch a game because the Vikings lost when they did. LOL
Being superstitious is funny but I really think it is very prevalent in sports whether it is the fan or the player. When I played softball, I always wore shorts!!! Even the one game we played in the Fall where snow was blowing around in the air and even if I thought I might need to slide….those shorts never stopped that attempt, and the the nice bruise I got at one game proved that. I knew I had to always wear shorts…..superstition or habit? LOL. Not sure.
Well as I count down the minutes until we see Dr. Houdek, it was nice to pass the time with a blog update.
Take care and send positive thoughts!
